Byron’s ancestor Sir Richard Byron inherited Colwick Hall in 1362, and the Byrons lived there for 150 years before they moved to Newstead Abbey, and Colwick was bought by the Musters family. In 1805 Jack Musters of Colwick married Mary Chaworth, Byron’s big love from Annesley Hall, and they became the Chaworth Musters. In 1831 during the 2nd Reforming Bill riots, the mob sacked Colwick Hall, and, without shelter, Mary with her daughter Sophia spent the night shivering in the pouring rain. Mary died a few months later.
